Sitdesign

Sitdesign is our upholstery line: everything where the material you touch is leather or fabric — sofas, corner sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, barstools, benches and beds. The woodworking pieces sit under Sitwood.

What is actually inside

Kiln-dried beech frames, so the timber is stable before it is cut; high-resilience foam over a sprung seat. High-resilience foam is the difference between a piece that still looks like itself in five years and one that has settled into hollows — it springs back rather than compressing, and it is firmer to sit on than a soft feather-topped cushion. That firmness is what you are buying.

Seventy-six leather shades, across twelve families

Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product. Your own fabric (COM) is accepted, which matters more than it sounds: specified together, a sofa, a bench, a bed headboard and a set of dining chairs can be cut from the same batch of hide. Hide bought a year apart will not be the same colour, so matching is something to do at the order rather than afterwards.

Made to your dimensions

Width, seat depth, back height, cushion firmness and the configuration are set with the order rather than taken from a catalogue. On a corner sofa the handing — which side the corner is on — is decided then too, and it is the one thing that cannot be changed once the piece is made. Send a plan of the room with the door, the window and the television marked, and the clear wall dimensions.

Where the work shows

On a plain piece there is no detail to look at instead of the seat line, so the tailoring is the whole proposition: the cover pulled with no draw lines, identical gaps between cushions, an arm the same section at both ends. On a hand-worked piece — tufting set by hand, nailhead trim driven one at a time, leather straps cut with the grain direction in mind — the work is visible in the detail itself. Both are made by the same team, in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, where the company has had its own workshop since 1983.
