NEPTUNE ARMCHAIR

Neptune is a compact tufted chair in full-grain leather: 78 cm wide, 82 cm deep, with a 92 cm buttoned back and wooden legs. Upright rather than lounging, and the most formal of our small chairs. Shown in dark brown.

Compact and upright

82 cm of depth with a 92 cm back puts you in a sitting position rather than a reclining one. That is the point: this is a chair for a desk corner, a hall, a pair flanking a fireplace, or a hotel room where guests sit to put their shoes on — places where a deep lounge chair is the wrong piece and usually ends up unused.

Full-grain leather on a small frame

Full-grain means the grain is left as it came, so the hide is already varied and will deepen unevenly at the seat and the arm fronts. On a small chair that variation reads strongly, because there is less surface to spread it over — which is why full-grain is specified here rather than a more uniform finish.

Tufting

Buttons pulled and tied by hand over high-density foam, which is what holds the diamonds square; a softer filling lets them sink and the pattern goes within a year or two. On a 92 cm back the rows have to divide the height evenly and stay symmetrical about the centre line.

Leather

Hand-built kiln-dried beech frame. Made to order in any of seventy-six shades across twelve leather families, or in fabric. Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product. Leather finish, stitching and cushion firmness specified at the time of order.

Where it belongs

A classic reading corner, a hall, a boutique lounge, a hotel room. Ashley is the softer, slightly taller alternative at the same width if a lounging chair is wanted instead.
