ROPE BARSTOOL

Rope is the low-backed barstool. A fluid, rounded form with a plush seat and a back that stops low — which is what lets it tuck under a counter and out of sight.

A low back is a space decision

This is the reason to choose Rope over a full-backed stool. A low back clears the underside of a worktop, so the stool pushes right in and the kitchen or bar reads as a clean line instead of a row of chairs. In a small kitchen that is the difference between a usable walkway and an obstacle course. What you give up is honest: a low back supports the base of your spine but not your shoulders, so it is comfortable for a coffee, a drink or a quick breakfast rather than a two-hour dinner. For that, Sky with a full back is the better stool.

Seat height, and the number to send us

Leave 25 to 30 cm between the top of the seat and the underside of the counter: a 90 cm kitchen island wants a seat at about 65 cm, a 105 to 110 cm bar counter about 75 cm. Rope is made to order, so the seat is set to your counter — send the counter height and the depth of any overhang, since both decide whether the stool tucks in.

A rounded form in upholstery

A continuously curved stool has no straight reference edge anywhere, so the shaping is judged entirely by eye and by hand, and the cover has to be eased round the turns with no gather and no flat spot. On a stool you walk all the way around — unlike a dining chair, which usually has its back to the room — so there is no forgiving side.
