Sideboards
Sideboards are chosen on two numbers — height and depth — and then on the front. Get the first two right and the rest is a question of how much you want the piece to say.
Height decides what the top is for
At 85 cm Merlin and 90 cm Lavor are at standing-work height: a serving surface in a dining room, with room above for a mirror or pictures. At 75 cm Diamante and 78 cm Mellow read as a long horizontal line and sit comfortably under a large picture, which a 90 cm piece would crowd. Ordinate at 77 cm, Myra at 78, Ricco at 81 and Orion at 84 fill in between. If you want to serve from the top, go tall; if art hangs above it, go low.
Depth, and the floor you give up
Most of the range is 47 to 52 cm deep. Diamante at 45 cm gives back several centimetres along its whole length, which in a dining room is the difference between a comfortable walkway behind the chairs and a squeeze. The trade-off is honest: a shallower carcass holds less, and large serving dishes may not sit front to back.
One body, three different pieces
Merlin, Orion and Mellow share the same 240 × 51.8 cm carcass. Merlin has carved sculptural panels at the centre of the front, Orion has structural metal framing the body rather than merely lifting it, and Mellow is left plain with a bronze frame. If the proportions are right and the detailing is not, the answer is usually one of the other two rather than a different size. Mellow is the one to choose when the room already has something strong in it.
The ones that do something else
Ricco is the only sideboard here with drawers above the doors, and its fronts are laid in herringbone across 250 cm. Lavor at 275 × 90 cm is the largest we make, with three-dimensional shaped door fronts in walnut. Ordinate carries a geometric carving across all four doors. Myra at 224 cm is the shortest, and the one you specify: the top comes in wood, glass or marble, on a brass or satin frame. Papillon has no catalogue size at all — it is built to the length of your wall and matched to the Papillon dining table.
How ordering works
Send the clear wall width between obstructions, the height available above, and the depth you can give to the walkway. Internal division — shelves, drawers or both — veneer, finish and metal finish are specified per project. Wood pieces are typically ready in six to eight weeks. Made in our Istanbul workshop.
