The Artist Sofa is a study in horizontal lines and restraint. Its low, ground-hugging silhouette extends outward into wide flat side platforms that carry the seat beyond its cushions, so the piece works as seating and as surface at once. Slim folded metal plates lift the whole volume just clear of the floor, letting the mass appear to float rather than sit.

Where most sofas build upward, Artist spreads sideways. That gives it an architectural presence closer to a built-in element than to a conventional furniture piece — a quality that suits open-plan living spaces, project interiors and rooms where the seating has to define the space rather than fill it.

Design Philosophy

Artist was designed around a single idea: keep the line low and let the material do the talking. The channel-stitched backrest breaks the long horizontal into a calm, repeating rhythm, while loose bolster cushions soften the geometry without interrupting it. The taut, matte surfaces of the side platforms contrast with the fuller, softer volumes of the seat and back, and that tension between flat and full is what gives the piece its character.

Nothing is applied for decoration. The metal base, the stitch spacing and the depth of the seat are all structural decisions that happen to read as detail.

Content & Technical Specifications

Artist is built to Sit Design’s standard construction, developed over three decades of manufacturing in Istanbul:

- Kiln-dried beech wood frame, hand-assembled

- High-resilience (HR) foam cushioning with a quality spring system in the seat

- Genuine leather upholstery — no faux leather is used in any Sit Design product

- Channel-stitched backrest with precision tailoring

- Slim folded metal plate base in a powder-coated finish

- Extended flat side platforms integrated into the frame

- Loose bolster cushions included

- Fully customisable upholstery, stitching and cushion configuration

- COM (customer’s own material) projects accepted

Dimensions

Artist is produced to order and dimensions are confirmed per project. Please contact us for the current specification sheet, or tell us the dimensions your space requires and we will confirm feasibility before quoting.

Craftsmanship & Quality

Every Artist Sofa is made by hand in our own facility in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, where the company has manufactured since 1992. Frame construction, foam profiling, stitching and final upholstery are all carried out in house, which is what allows dimensions, leather grade and comfort level to be adapted per project rather than offered as fixed options.

A piece like Artist is unforgiving in production: the long unbroken horizontals show every millimetre of error, and the flat platforms have to stay flat under load. Achieving that takes experienced upholsterers and a frame engineered for the span — which is why this model is built only in our own atelier.
