Slim Frame. Deep Seat. Leather with a Soft Hand.

The Maxima Sofa takes a generous, relaxed seat and wraps it in the thinnest frame the construction allows. The arms are cut as narrow upright panels rather than upholstered volumes, so the sofa reads as light from across a room while still seating three people in comfort. Solid wood sled legs, stained dark, run under the frame and lift it clear of the floor.

It is a piece built for daily use rather than for display. The seat is deep, the back cushions are split and generously filled, and the loose bolsters can be moved wherever they are wanted — against an arm, across the middle, or set aside altogether.

Design Philosophy

Maxima is about the contrast between the frame and what sits inside it. The outer shell is taut, thin and precisely tailored; the cushions inside are full and soft. Where the two meet, the vertical stitch lines on the back and the single seam across each seat cushion keep the large surfaces from reading as flat.

The dark sled legs are the one deliberate interruption. Their curved profile and warm timber tone cut across the pale leather and give the sofa a visual base, which is what lets the frame itself stay as slim as it does.

Content & Technical Specifications

Maxima is built to Sit Design’s standard construction, developed over three decades of manufacturing in Istanbul:

- Kiln-dried beech wood frame, hand-assembled

- High-resilience (HR) foam cushioning with a quality spring system in the seat

- Genuine leather upholstery — no faux leather is used in any Sit Design product

- Slim tailored arm panels with separate loose arm bolsters

- Two-part seat and backrest with vertical stitch detailing

- Long centre bolster with a contrasting suede band

- Solid wood sled legs in a dark stained finish

- Matching pouf available, with suede top, leather-wrapped body and leather loop handle

- Fully customisable upholstery, stitching and cushion configuration

- COM (customer’s own material) projects accepted

Craftsmanship & Quality

Every Maxima Sofa is made by hand in our own facility in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, where the company has manufactured since 1992. Frame construction, foam profiling, stitching and final upholstery are all carried out in house, which is what allows dimensions, leather grade and comfort level to be adapted per project rather than offered as fixed options.

The slim arm panels are the difficult part of this model. There is very little material to hide behind, so the leather has to be cut and stretched precisely or the edge will not stay straight. That is skilled upholstery work, and it is the reason the frame can be this thin without looking fragile.
