OXFORD SOFA

Oxford is the low, shallow Chesterfield: 280 cm wide but only 88 cm deep and 66 cm high — the lowest and shallowest sofa in our range. The buttoned back and rolled arms are traditional; the proportions are not, and that is the whole point of the model.

Width without depth

88 cm is twelve centimetres shallower than a standard sofa, so Oxford can run along a wall in a room that cannot give up the floor — a hallway-width sitting room, a narrow lounge, a corridor seating area. You get the full presence of a 280 cm Chesterfield and lose almost nothing of the walkway in front of it.

66 cm high

The low back is what keeps the shallow seat from feeling upright. You sit into it rather than on it, and across a room the sofa reads as a long horizontal line instead of a wall of leather. It is also the Chesterfield to choose when something has to stay visible behind it.

What it is not

It is not a sofa for long evenings of lying down — 88 cm does not allow it, and we would rather say so than have it chosen for the wrong room. For that, Chicago at 105 cm deep or Edinburgh at 99 cm is the better piece.

Construction and leather

Solid hardwood frame. Back and arms tufted by hand in the traditional way; studs and cushion fill are options. Upholstered to order in any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families, or in fabric.

Three widths, listed above, all 88 cm deep and 66 cm high. Adjustable per project — depth and height included, if the shallow proportion is not what the room needs.
