Felix is a run of separate tailored cushions on a sculptural metal base. 220 × 80 × 45 cm — the soft version of the same bench, where the frame does the drawing and the upholstery does the sitting.

Separate cushions, and why that is harder

One long cushion over 220 cm is easier to make and worse to sit on: it dips in the middle and the fabric creases along the whole length. A sequence of individual cushions keeps each one firm and keeps the gaps between them as deliberate lines — which means every cushion has to be identical, and the spacing has to be constant, or the rhythm reads as a mistake instead of a pattern. They can also be re-covered one at a time rather than the whole bench at once.

A metal base you can see through

The base is open and visible, so it carries the load and the look at the same time. On an exposed frame there is nothing to hide behind: the welds are dressed and the geometry has to be square, because a leg a degree out of plumb is obvious under a 220 cm run.

80 cm deep, 45 cm high

At 80 cm Felix is about twice the depth of an ordinary bench, so you sit back on it rather than perch — the right depth where a bench is really a long seat rather than a shelf, and the reason it needs genuine floor space. 45 cm is chair height, which lets it work at a dining table as well as on its own.
