PENTA SECTIONAL SOFA

Penta has a wooden platform running the full length behind the back. It is the only sofa we make with one, and it changes what the sofa does in a room.

A shelf behind the back

The platform sits level along the top of the back and carries what would otherwise need a side table: a lamp, a book, a glass, a plant. That matters most in an open-plan room, where a sofa often stands away from any wall — with the platform, the back of the sofa becomes a finished surface instead of a blank side, so the sofa can be placed in the middle of the room and face into it. It is also a real structural job: a shelf people will put a drink on has to be held rigid along its whole length and stay level, which means it is built into the frame rather than attached to the upholstery.

Three seats with built-in arms

The arms are integrated into the body rather than added as separate rolls, which keeps the outline tight and means the sofa takes less floor for the same seat width — an arm is usually 15 to 20 cm of width per side that nobody sits on.

What to check before ordering

Two things. First, the platform adds depth behind the back, so measure the total front-to-back dimension rather than the seat depth when you check it against the room. Second, if the sofa will stand against a wall, the platform is still there — it is not an option to leave off, and against a wall you lose the use of it, so in that position a sofa without one may be the better buy.

Made to order; overall dimensions confirmed with your quotation. Timber and finish for the platform specified per project, and it can be matched to a coffee table or a sideboard in the same room. Fabric or leather — any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families — and your own fabric (COM) is accepted. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.
