CAMERON CHAIR

Cameron is the generous one: 60 cm wide, 65 cm deep and 90 cm to the top of the back, fully upholstered front and back, on solid wood legs. It is a dining chair built for a long dinner rather than a quick meal.

60 cm wide — do the arithmetic first

Chair width is what decides how many people actually sit at your table, and it is the calculation most people skip. Allow about 65 cm of table edge per person at a 60 cm chair: a 280 cm table takes four down each side comfortably, five only if nobody minds touching elbows. A narrower chair such as Bellini at 50 cm gives you an extra seat on the same table. Measure the table, divide, and then choose the chair.

65 cm deep, and the chair that has to tuck under

Depth decides whether the chair disappears when it is not in use. At 65 cm Cameron needs about 75 to 80 cm of clear floor behind the table edge to pull out and sit down, and more in a room where someone has to walk behind. Check the underside of your table too: the seat and the back have to pass under the top, and a table with a deep apron or a wide pedestal foot will stop a chair short.

A back that is upholstered on both sides

The outside of the back is upholstered as well as the inside, which is what makes this a chair that can stand in the middle of a room or at the head of a table where the back is the first thing you see. It is also more work and more material: a plain or timber-faced outer back is cheaper and perfectly honest, but it only looks right against a wall.

Materials and sizes

60 × 65 × 90 cm. Solid wood legs; fabric or leather — any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families — and your own fabric (COM) is accepted, so the chairs can be matched to a bench, a headboard or a sofa in the same room, from the same batch. Genuine leather only. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.

Where it belongs

A dining room where people stay at the table, a fine-dining restaurant, an executive meeting room, a hotel. Where the table is tight, a narrower chair is the honest answer rather than this one squeezed in.
