In context
Merlin is the one with carved sculptural panels set into the centre of the front. Dark wood veneer, four doors, a raised metal base, and at 85 cm it is among the tallest sideboards we make — which changes what the top is good for.
The carved centre
The sculptural detail runs across the two central doors, so the pattern has to continue across a door gap and still line up when both doors are shut. That is the hard part: the carving is cut while the panels are flat, then the doors are hung, and a millimetre of drift in the hinge line breaks the pattern where everyone looks first. The relief is also what gives the front depth — in flat light a dark veneer reads as a slab, and the carving is what stops that.
85 cm, and what it changes
Sideboard height decides how the top gets used. At 85 cm Merlin is at standing-work height: a serving surface in a dining room, a drop surface in an entrance, with room for a mirror or pictures above. Lower sideboards — Mellow at 78 cm, Diamante at 75 cm — read as a horizontal line under art and are easier to look across. Taller means more usable volume inside and a stronger presence in the room.
One carcass, three different pieces
Merlin, Orion and Mellow share the same 240 × 51.8 cm body. What separates them is the front and the metal: Merlin has the carved centre, Orion has structural metal framing the body, Mellow is left plain with a bronze frame. If the proportions are right and the detailing is not, the answer is usually one of the other two rather than a different size.
Materials and sizes
240 × 51.8 × 85 cm; made to order, so width and the internal division — shelves, drawers or both — are set during the order. Veneer, finish and metal finish specified per project. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.
Where it belongs
A dining room, an entrance hall, a hotel lobby, a prestigious office. The carved centre wants to be seen, so it needs a wall where nothing is standing in front of it.
