In context

Orion sideboard in a dining room

On Orion the metal is structural and visible: vertical and angular sections frame the dark wooden body instead of merely lifting it off the floor. 240 × 51.8 cm, 84 cm high, four doors.

Metal that frames the body

Most sideboards treat the metal as a base. Here it runs up and around the carcass, so the wood sits inside a frame — which means the two materials meet along their full length rather than at four points. That is the difficult part: metal and wood move differently with temperature and humidity, so the joint has to be detailed to allow it while the visible gap stays constant end to end. A shadow line that is 2 mm at one corner and 4 mm at the other is the fault you would see, and it is the reason the frame is made to the carcass rather than bought to size.

84 cm

Standing-work height: a serving surface in a dining room, a drop surface in an entrance, with room above for a mirror or art. Lower in the same body, Mellow sits at 78 cm and reads as a horizontal line instead.

One carcass, three different pieces

Orion, Merlin and Mellow share the same 240 × 51.8 cm body. Orion has the structural metal frame, Merlin a carved sculptural centre, Mellow a plain front with a bronze base. Same footprint, three different levels of presence — worth comparing before changing the size.

Materials and sizes

240 × 51.8 × 84 cm; made to order, with width and the internal division set during the order. Veneer, finish and metal finish specified per project. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.

Where it belongs

A dining room, a luxury residence, a hotel lobby, a sophisticated office. The frame is a strong architectural line, so it suits a plain wall and a room that can carry one.
