Ricco is the only sideboard in the range with drawers above the doors, and its fronts are laid in a herringbone pattern. 250 × 50 cm, 81 cm high, on a slim raised metal frame.
Herringbone, laid by hand
A herringbone front is made from short strips of veneer laid alternately, so every strip meets its neighbour at a right angle and the grain direction flips at each joint. That is why it is difficult: the chevrons have to stay the same width and the same angle along two and a half metres, across door gaps, and the eye reads a broken chevron instantly. Because the grain alternates, the surface also changes as you move past it — one set of strips catches the light while the other goes dark.
Drawers above doors
Cutlery, linen and the things that should not be behind a door go in the top drawers; plates and large pieces go in the cabinets below. It is the layout that makes Ricco a working dining-room piece rather than a storage box — and it is the one feature none of the other sideboards here has.
81 cm, 250 cm long
81 cm is just below standing-work height: usable for serving, still low enough to live under a picture. 250 cm needs a wall to match — in a short run the herringbone pattern loses its rhythm, which is the whole point of the front.
Materials and sizes
250 × 50 × 81 cm; made to order, with length and the internal division set during the order. The herringbone spacing is re-set with any change of length so the pattern stays even. Veneer, finish and metal finish specified per project. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.
Where it belongs
A dining room, a luxury residence, a boutique hotel, a refined office. The pattern is the piece, so it wants even light across the front rather than a single spot.
