Sofa Trends for 2027: 7 Ideas from Milan Design Week 2026

The sofa trends that stood out at Salone del Mobile in Milan (21–26 April 2026) come down to three words: curved, low and enveloping. On colour, greens and earth tones led, with a soft, muted orange as the accent. Here are the seven ideas worth knowing, and how to bring each one home.

1. Curved, enveloping shapes

Sharp-cornered sofas gave way to soft curves. Arms and backs that wrap around in one line, and seating that holds the person sitting in it, were everywhere. Seating groups were set facing each other for conversation rather than lined up against a wall.

A curved sofa looks best floating in the room, away from the wall. Leave around 75–90 cm behind it so people can pass comfortably.

At Sitdesign, the closest pieces to this look are the Janette Curved sofa, the Isabella sectional with its flowing curves and low profile, and the Happy sectional with its rounded end module. On the yacht CAMILA, we drew and built two long curved sofas, each to its own radius.

2. Low, deep and relaxed

Comfort was the second big theme. Low, horizontal sofas with full, generous volumes and deep seats: relaxed, but still tailored.

A deep seat does not suit everyone. It is ideal for tall people and for lounging; if you sit upright, back cushions can reduce the depth. A low profile also keeps a room feeling open, especially under a low ceiling or in front of a window.

At Sitdesign: the Artist sofa, whose low, ground-hugging line extends into wide flat side platforms and floats on slim metal plates, and the deep-seated Isabella.

3. Conversation-pit sectionals

The 1970s conversation pit is back: large U- or L-shaped modular sectionals, often with curved corners, gathered around a low table. A practical answer for big families and homes that entertain.

The challenge with a large sectional is making it fit without filling the room. Modules help: on Sitdesign sectionals a single-seat module can be made as narrow as 90 cm, so a U-shape can work in a mid-sized living room too. See our sectional sofas.

4. Greens, earth tones and soft orange

The fair's palette ran through many shades of green, set against earth tones such as beige and terracotta, with a dusty, tangerine-like orange as the accent. In our leather collection, the closest matches are:

Trend colour Sitdesign leather (collection · colour · code)
Green Linea · Verdone · 915 — Firenze · Yeşil (green) · 556 — Laguna · Yeşil (green) · 502
Terracotta / earth Linea · Cotto · 916 — Parma · Cognac · 351 — Firenze · Caramel · 553
Tobacco / brown Modena · Tobacco · 454 — Siena · Tarçın (cinnamon) · 107

5. Softer, upholstered dining chairs

In the dining room, hard chairs gave way to upholstered ones with gently curved backs. The idea is simple: at a long dinner, people stay at the table longer.

6. Sculptural coffee tables, in sets of different heights

Instead of one large coffee table, sets of two or three at different sizes and heights stood out. Marble veining and mixes of stone and wood turn the table into the room's sculpture.

At Sitdesign: Balance (a rectangular coffee table with a portable side table), Anilla (a marble coffee table with two side tables) and Infinity, which combines marble and wood. For care, see our marble page.

7. Walls you want to touch

Walls were discussed as much as furniture: wood panelling, textured finishes, statement wallpaper. Designing the walls and the furniture together gives a room its coherence.

At the Göl İstanbul villa, we drew the decorative wall panelling, the fixed joinery and the furniture in one 3D model, so where a panel ends and a cabinet begins, the dimensions agree.

Bringing a trend home

A sofa usually stays with you for ten years or more; a trend changes in a few. A safe approach is to try a new colour on an armchair, pouf or cushions first. Be bold with the shape — a curve, a low profile — and choose a lasting colour for the main sofa.

Choose materials for how you live, not for the trend. In fabric, the abrasion figure (Martindale) and pilling grade decide how it wears; in leather, whether the surface is aniline or pigmented. More on our fabric and leather pages.

Frequently asked questions

Which sofa colours are in for 2027?

Going by Milan 2026: shades of green, earth tones such as cognac and terracotta, and a soft orange as an accent.

Does a curved sofa work in a small living room?

A full half-round sofa leaves a gap behind it when pushed against a wall. In a small room, a gently curved sofa or one with a rounded end module uses the space better.

Are sectional sofas going out of style?

No. Large, modular, conversation-focused sectionals were among the standout pieces of the fair.

How long does a made-to-measure sofa take?

Usually 3–4 weeks for upholstered pieces, depending on the project.
