Göl İstanbul Villa

Göl İstanbul is a 97-villa development laid out across 172,000 m² on the lake side of Büyükçekmece, on Istanbul's western edge. Sit Design furnished the largest house in the project — a 556 m² single-storey villa — supplying not only the freestanding furniture but the fixed joinery and the decorative wall panelling, all designed in 3D and produced in our own Istanbul workshop.

Taking the walls as well as the rooms changes how a project is drawn. The walnut frame around a bed, the backlit stone panels behind an entrance console, the fluted plaster piers in the dining room and the pieces standing in front of them were detailed together, so there is no seam where one supplier stops and the next begins.

The entrance sets the tone: a black marble console on a sculpted timber base, set against a tall bronzed panel lit from within, with a pair of shell pendants hanging either side. The floor is dark herringbone oak, and it runs from here through the whole of the ground floor.

The living and dining rooms are handled as one long volume. A cream leather Moria seating group — two sofas, a three-seater and a pair of deep armchairs — is gathered around the Balance coffee table in marble and black stone, facing a plaster-panelled media wall with a recessed walnut display unit beside it. Past the opening, the Ritmo dining table seats ten in velvet Delta chairs, framed by a black lacquer library wall with lit shelves.

The bedrooms shift the palette rather than repeating it. One takes a grey herringbone fabric headwall inside a walnut frame with mirrored returns; another moves to a pale woven panel with bronze reveals and a cream leather Bravo bed. Each room carries its own dressing and television unit in lacquer and walnut, built to the wall rather than set against it.
