TRIESTE BED

Trieste is the plain one. An upholstered headboard with no strap, no stitch pattern and no panel division — 387 × 216 cm overall, 120 cm high, and nothing on the front to look at except the proportion.

Why a plain headboard is the harder one

A strap, a stitch pattern or a panel line hides a small fault; an unbroken upholstered panel 387 cm wide hides nothing. The fabric has to be pulled evenly across the whole width with no draw lines and no slack, the padding has to be the same depth from one end to the other, and the edges have to run straight. On a surface this large those are the only things to see, which is why the plain version is the one that shows the work rather than the one that avoids it.

120 cm, and what that suits

At 120 cm Trieste is the lower of our headboards, with Bambi. It stays under a window sill or a dado rail at around a metre where a 134 or 135 cm headboard would cross it, and it leaves wall above for a picture — which the taller beds do not. The trade-off is back support rather than head support when you sit up; if you read in bed, Bravo at 130 cm or Tripoli at 135 cm is the better bed.

The bed to choose when the room is already decided

A plain headboard is the right answer in a bedroom that already has something strong in it — patterned curtains, a figured timber floor, art above the bed, a wallpaper. In a bare room it may read as too quiet, and one of the detailed headboards is the honest recommendation instead.

Materials and sizes

Solid wood frame; upholstered headboard. Overall size as listed: 387 × 216 × 120 cm. Mattress size, fabric and finish are confirmed with the order; your own fabric (COM) is accepted. A tight weave or a leather wipes clean where a loose open weave will not, which matters on the surface you lean your head against. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.

Where it belongs

A contemporary principal bedroom, a luxury apartment, a boutique hotel. It is the background bed, which is a job worth doing well rather than a compromise.
