Lopez is the rounded leather one on casters: 61 × 66 × 87 cm, a flowing back and arms in hide, with discreet caster feet so a heavy chair moves with one hand.

Casters: what they give and what they cost

A 61 × 66 cm leather chair is heavy, and casters mean it is pulled out and pushed in rather than lifted — which is why they appear on dining and conference chairs that get used every day. The honest trade-offs: on a hard smooth floor a castered chair can creep away from the table as you sit down, and on a thick rug or a deep carpet it will not roll at all, so the casters stop being an advantage and become feet. If the chairs will stand on a rug, Cindy with its rear handle is the better answer.

Leather on a curved back

A flowing, organic shape is the hardest form to upholster in hide. Leather stretches in one direction and barely in the other, so a continuously curved back and arm has to be cut on the right axis and eased round the turn with no gather and no pleat — a woven fabric would forgive some of that, and hide does not. In exchange, leather holds the curve crisply for years and wipes clean, which on a dining chair matters more than anywhere else.

One of our largest dining chairs. Allow about 65 cm of table edge per person — a 280 cm table seats four down each side — and around 80 cm of clear floor behind the table. Measure the arm against the underside of your table top too: a deep apron will stop it short.

Lopez, Cindy and Suzanna share this footprint. Lopez is the rounded, organic one; Suzanna is the straighter-lined version with a lower 83 cm back; Cindy has a handle instead of casters and is the one also offered in fabric.

Materials and sizes

61 × 66 × 87 cm. Leather upholstery, any of seventy-six shades across twelve families, with caster feet. Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product. The hide can be matched to a sofa or a bench in the same room, from the same batch. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.
