Why a handle matters on a chair this size

A fully upholstered 61 × 66 cm chair is heavy. Without a handle, everyone moves it by grabbing the top edge of the back — and that is precisely the spot that wears out first, because hands carry oils and the top edge takes the whole load through a single line of upholstery. A recessed handle gives you somewhere to hold that is made to be held. In a restaurant or a hotel, where chairs are moved several times a day by people who are not thinking about the upholstery, it is the difference between re-covering in five years and re-covering in ten.

61 × 66 cm, and the arithmetic

This is one of our largest dining chairs. Allow about 65 cm of table edge per person: a 280 cm table takes four down each side, not five. It also needs around 80 cm of clear floor behind the table edge to pull out and sit. And because it has arms, measure from the floor to the underside of your table top and compare it with the arm height before ordering — a deep apron will stop the chair short of the table.

The same shell, three different chairs

Cindy, Lopez and Suzanna share this 61 × 66 cm footprint. Cindy is the one with a handle and the one offered in fabric as well as leather; Lopez is leather with casters and a rounder silhouette; Suzanna is leather with concealed casters and a lower 83 cm back. Choose by how the chair will be moved and in what material, not by the size — the size is the same.

Materials and sizes

61 × 66 × 87 cm. Fabric or leather — any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families — and your own fabric (COM) is accepted, so the chairs can be matched to a bench or a sofa in the same room, from the same batch. Genuine leather only. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.
