AGATHA SOFA

Agatha is a 280 cm sofa only 91 cm deep — one of the shallowest we make — with a low 75 cm line and a single uninterrupted seat. It is shown here in cognac and tan leather.

91 cm deep, and why that is the point

Most sofas of this width are 100 to 105 cm deep. At 91 cm Agatha gives back around 10 cm of floor along its whole length, which is the difference between a comfortable walkway behind a coffee table and a squeeze. That is the honest reason to choose it: a full three-seat sofa in a room that cannot really take one. The trade-off is that you sit on it rather than disappear into it — if you want to curl up, Nakita or Sophia is the deeper, softer choice.

A 75 cm line

75 cm overall is low. In an open-plan room this sofa leaves every sightline open — nothing behind the sofa is hidden, which is what you want when a sofa stands in the middle of a space rather than against a wall. It is a back that supports your lower and mid back; it is not a high back, and it will not support your neck or shoulders. If you want head support, Chelsea at 90 cm or one of our wingbacks is the right piece, and we would rather say so than let the photographs suggest otherwise.

A plain monolithic form

There is no button, no strap, no piping and no applied detail — just the volume and the tailoring. That makes it the harder sofa to build: the seat line has to run level across the full 280 cm, the arm has to be the same section at both ends, and the cover has to be pulled with no draw lines anywhere. There is no detail to look at instead, which is exactly the proposition.

Construction

Handcrafted kiln-dried beech frame; high-density multilayer foam. Any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families, or fabric; your own fabric (COM) is accepted, and stitching, piping and cushion configuration are specified with the order. Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product. Made in our Istanbul factory.

Three-seater 280 × 91 × 75 cm. Made to order, so the width can be set to your wall, and other configurations are available on request.
