Moonlight is a modular library in wood and metal, with a matching television unit available. The metal is in the structure, not only on the base — which is what lets the openings be wider than wood alone would allow.
Metal where the load is
A wooden shelf loaded with books bows once the span gets long, so a timber-only bookcase has to be divided into fairly narrow bays. Taking the load in metal changes that: the openings can be wider and the shelves thinner, and the composition reads as lines rather than as a grid of boxes. It is the reason to choose Moonlight over an all-wood unit such as Loft — and the trade-off is that the metal is visible, so it has to be part of the design rather than hidden.
Modular, and why the module is the decision
Moonlight is built from modules, so the wall is filled in whole units. That means the module width has to divide the wall cleanly: a run that ends in a narrow offcut is the one thing you cannot un-see. We set the module out against your wall dimension before anything is made, and a change of length is absorbed across all the modules rather than added at one end.
With or without the television unit
The matching TV unit can be specified as part of the composition, which keeps the screen low — comfortable viewing puts the centre of the screen at about seated eye level — and keeps the equipment and cables inside the same piece instead of beside it.
Materials and sizes
Wood and metal; dimensions, module rhythm, the mix of open and closed storage and the metal finish are all set during the order. Timber and finish specified per project. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.
Where it belongs
A living room wall, a library wall, a study, an office or a reception. It suits a long or tall wall, where the module rhythm has room to repeat.
