LOFT TV UNIT & BOOKSHELF

A bookcase and TV unit as one wooden composition, made to the size of your wall.

Loft is a bookcase and a television unit drawn as one wooden composition, made to the size of the wall it will fill.

One wall, two different jobs

Books and a screen want opposite things. Books need a shelf depth of about 30 cm and as many shelves as the wall will take; a television needs a low, shallow surface with room behind it for equipment and cables, and nothing directly above it at eye level. Putting both on one wall means deciding where the screen sits inside the grid of shelves — which is the conversation to have before anything is cut, not after.

Shelf span is a structural decision

A wooden shelf carrying a full run of books will bow if the span is too long. That is why the module width on a bookcase is not only a matter of proportion: the spacing of the uprights is what keeps the shelves straight in ten years' time. If you want wide, uninterrupted openings we will say what that needs — a thicker shelf, a different timber, or a hidden steel flat inside it — rather than build something that will sag.

Made to measure

Dimensions, the number and rhythm of modules, the mix of open shelving and closed storage, and the cable routing are all set during the order. The measurements to send are the clear wall width and height, the depth you can give up, and the screen size.

Materials

Loft is built in wood, from our wood collection — walnut, oak or anigre. The finish is applied by hand so the grain stays continuous across the full run, which is what separates a made piece from a wall of boxes. Timber and finish are confirmed with your quotation.

Where it belongs

A living room wall, a study, a library wall in a residence, an office. For a unit with metal in the structure and wider openings, see Moonlight.
