Toronto corner sectional sofa in a living room with a coffee table

TORONTO CORNER SECTIONAL SOFA

Leather and fabric on one modular corner sofa — leather where the wear is, cloth where you lean.

Toronto puts leather and fabric on the same sofa — mustard hide against soft beige cloth in the version shown. It is a modular corner sofa, and the two materials are doing different jobs.

Leather where the wear is, fabric where you lean

Mixing the two is usually read as a colour decision. It is also a practical one, and that is the better reason to do it. Arms, seat fronts and the outer back take the knocks, the shoes, the bags and the spills; leather takes all of that and wipes clean. Backs and inner cushions are where you lean, and fabric is warmer against you and quieter in the room. Put them the right way round and the sofa ages far better than one made entirely of cloth. Put them the wrong way round and you have a sofa that is cold to sit on and marks where it shows.

The line where they meet

The seam between hide and cloth is the piece. The two materials have different thicknesses and pull differently — leather stretches in one direction and barely in the other, a weave gives in both — so the join has to run dead straight with neither material gathering. On a corner sofa that line has to stay true through the corner module as well, which is where it is hardest.

Modular, and handed

Toronto is built from modules, so you specify a layout rather than a size, and modules can be added or left out to suit the room. The corner is handed and cannot be swapped once made: stand where you come into the room, face the sofa, and tell us whether the long side runs away to your left or your right. Send a plan with the door, the window and the television marked. It is the most common ordering mistake in sectionals.

Materials and sizes

Made to order; overall dimensions depend on the module layout and are confirmed with your quotation. Available all in fabric, all in leather, or mixed. Any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families, and your own fabric (COM) is accepted. Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.

Where it belongs

A living room with a point of view, a loft, a lounge, a boutique hotel. The two-colour version is a strong decision — in a room that already has pattern and colour, a single material is the calmer answer.
