Stafero is a black marble top on a geometric metal base. The stone is the piece — natural veining running across 241 cm of polished dark surface — and the metal below is kept sculptural and open so the slab appears to float above it.
A marble top is never repeated
Marble is quarried, not manufactured, so the veining on your table will not be the veining in the photograph. On a dining table that matters more than on any other piece, because the top is what everyone looks at for two hours at a time. We will show you the slab before it is cut, and we would rather do that than have a pattern chosen from a screen.
Living with stone on a dining table
Said honestly: marble is porous. Wine, oil, lemon and vinegar will mark an unsealed surface, and on stone the mark is permanent. Sealed — and resealed every year or two — it is a practical everyday table, and a black marble is far more forgiving than a pale one, which is why this model is made in it. We will tell you exactly what the maintenance is before you order.
The metal base
A marble top is heavy, and the usual answer is a heavy base, which turns the table into a block. Here the base is welded steel in an open geometric form: strong enough to carry the slab without flexing, open enough to show the floor through it. The welds are dressed by hand, because on an exposed structure every joint is visible.
How many it seats
241 × 111 cm seats eight comfortably and ten when needed. The base is set inboard of the corners, so chairs can be placed anywhere along the sides and at both ends.
Materials and sizes
241 × 111 × 74 cm as drawn; made to order, so the length can be changed — within what a single slab allows, which we will confirm. Stone and metal finish specified per project.
Where it belongs
A contemporary dining room, a restaurant, a hotel. It is a cold, hard, formal piece, and it is best in a room with something warm in it — a wood floor, a rug, upholstered chairs.
