PLATT ARMCHAIR

Platt is the plainest chair we make. Clean lines, soft upholstery, no piping, no buttons, no visible frame or hardware — 80 cm wide, 83 cm deep, 75 cm high. There is nothing on it to look at, which means it is judged entirely on its tailoring. Shown in cognac, black and brown.

Why plain is the hard version

On a form like this the seams are the only drawing. Panels are cut so the stitch lines land where the eye expects them, corners are mitred rather than gathered, and the arm edges are kept soft without letting the cover slacken over them. Done loosely a chair like this looks cheap from across a room; done precisely it looks expensive.

Compact, and genuinely so

80 by 83 cm fits where a lounge chair usually does not: beside a door, in a bay, at the end of a hallway, in a hotel room that is already full. The seat is still deep enough to sit back in — the saving is in the arms and the frame, not in the seat.

Fabric or leather

Shown in leather; made to order in any of seventy-six shades across twelve leather families, in our fabric range, or in a fabric you supply yourself. Solid kiln-dried beech frame with high-density foam. In fabric the plain form carries a textured weave well, since nothing on the chair competes with it.

Proportions

80 × 83 × 75 cm. Adjustable per project. If the same footprint is wanted but the chair needs to turn, Hola is built on an 80 cm cube with a swivel base.

Where it belongs

A modern apartment, a boutique hotel room, an office, a bedroom corner. It is a background piece by design, which makes it the right choice when something else in the room is meant to be the subject.
