ORDINATE COFFEE TABLE

CNC-cut asymmetrical wooden legs under a bold dark top — a different table from every angle.

The Ordinate coffee table stands on asymmetrical legs cut on a CNC machine. The top is a bold rectangle in a dark finish; the supports beneath it are sculptural rather than structural-looking, and no two sides of the base are the same.

Why the legs are machine-cut

A shape like this cannot be made by hand at a repeatable standard. CNC cutting means the profile is drawn digitally and cut to that drawing exactly, so an asymmetrical form that would be approximate if carved comes out identical every time — and can be cut again years later to match. That is the reason this design exists in wood at all.

Asymmetry on purpose

The base is deliberately not the same from every angle, so the table changes as you walk around it. On a rectangular top that is a real decision: it means the table has a front, and it should be placed with its most complex side facing the room rather than the wall. We will tell you which side that is.

A dark finish on wood

The dark stain keeps the attention on the cut profile rather than on the grain. In a paler finish the same table becomes a wooden object and the sculpture of the base recedes — possible, and specified by some projects, but it is a different piece. The finish is chosen with the order.

Materials and sizes

Wood, made to order, with size open. The leg profile is re-cut to the new dimensions rather than scaled, so the proportion of the base to the top holds. The matching Ordinate side tables nest with it, and the Ordinate sofa is drawn in the same language.

Where it belongs

A contemporary living room, a design-led lounge, an office reception. It needs floor around it — the base is the reason to own the table, and against a wall half of it is lost.
