NERISSA ARMCHAIR

Nerissa is the wide tufted chair: 90 cm across, 92 cm deep, 100 cm high, with a deep-buttoned back, rolled arms and nailhead trim. Where a traditional tufted chair is usually narrow and upright, this one is broad enough to sit sideways in. Shown in dark brown.

Width on a buttoned form

A buttoned back has to be laid out to the width: the diamonds are set to divide 90 cm evenly, so the rows stay symmetrical about the centre line rather than running out at one edge. Get that wrong and the chair looks subtly off from across a room, which is why the button layout is drawn before the frame is covered rather than marked on it afterwards.

Nerissa or Matrix

Both are tufted club chairs with nailhead trim, and they are the two people compare. Matrix is taller — 108 cm, narrower at 85 cm, and it encloses the head; it is a library chair. Nerissa is 90 cm wide with a 100 cm back: broader, more relaxed, easier to sit sideways in. Height against width, and the room usually decides.

Construction

Solid kiln-dried beech frame. Buttons pulled and tied by hand over high-density foam, which is what holds the diamonds square — a softer filling lets them sink and the pattern goes within a year or two. Nailheads set individually along the leading edges.

Leather

Made to order in any of seventy-six shades across twelve leather families, or in fabric. Genuine leather only. Leather type, stitching and cushion firmness specified at the time of order.

Where it belongs

A traditional living room, a study, a hotel suite, an executive office. It pairs with our buttoned sofas — Jakarta, Edward, Evesham, Brighton — and in a dark hide it anchors a corner on its own.
