MONICA COFFEE TABLE SET

Monica is a pair of compact side tables on cylindrical pedestals, with round tops in wood or marble and the central column partly wrapped in a soft material. Hard surface above, something you can touch below.

The wrapped column

This is the detail that distinguishes it. A pedestal in bare metal or stone is cold and reads as structure; wrapping part of it in leather or fabric turns the support into something upholstered, so a small hard-topped table has warmth in it. It also means the table can be wrapped in the same hide as the sofa beside it, from the same batch — a side table that belongs to the seating rather than standing near it.

A single column matters more on a side table than on a large one. There is nothing to catch a foot on from any angle, and no leg in the way of a chair or a sofa base, so the table can be pushed right in against the seating — which is exactly where a side table needs to be and where a four-legged one cannot go.

Wood or marble

The same form in two characters. Wood is warm and quiet and forgives a water ring; marble is cool and hard and shows one, but the veining is unique to the slab and on a small round top it is seen close up, where it reads best. Choose by whether the table is going somewhere drinks are set down without thinking.

Materials and sizes

Made to order. Top material, wrap material and shade — any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families, or fabric — and the diameters and heights are specified per project. Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product.

Where it belongs

Beside a chair, at the end of a sofa, in a hotel room, in a lounge. Compact enough for the places a conventional side table will not fit.
