Milano has a leather base. The top is wood, 240 × 110 cm, and beneath it a conical base is wrapped in hide with decorative stitching run across the panels — the only dining table in our range upholstered the way a sofa is.
Why leather on a dining table
Because almost nobody does it, and because it solves a real problem: a dining table and the chairs around it usually have nothing material in common. Here the base can be made in the same hide as the dining chairs, from the same batch, so the set reads as one piece of furniture rather than a table surrounded by seating. The stitching is cut and sewn by hand, like upholstery, and the panels have to be eased around a cone without a single pull mark.
A conical base
Tapered, so the floor area it takes is smaller than the top it carries. On a 240 cm table that means the chairs at the ends sit closer in than they could around a four-legged table, and nobody is straddling a leg. It also keeps a large table from looking planted — the base narrows as it goes down and the top appears lifted.
How many it seats
240 × 110 cm seats eight comfortably — three a side, one at each end — and ten when people sit closer. Allow 60 to 65 cm of edge per person and about 90 cm of clear floor behind each chair.
