MATRIX ARMCHAIR

Matrix has the tallest back in our range: 108 cm, hand-tufted, with rolled arms and nailhead trim along the leading edges. It is a club chair in the full sense — tall enough to enclose the head and shoulders, 92 cm deep, with a removable seat cushion. Shown in brown and dark brown.

108 cm

A back this tall does two things. It supports the head, so the chair is comfortable for an hour of reading or conversation rather than twenty minutes. And it encloses: sitting in it, the room behind you disappears, which is why chairs like this ended up in libraries and clubs. The trade-off is presence — it is a tall object, and in a low-ceilinged room it will dominate.

Tufting on a tall back

Buttons pulled and tied by hand, over high-density foam that holds the diamonds square. On a 108 cm back the rows have to stay even all the way up, with no drift at the top where the curve tightens — the hardest part of the piece. The nailheads are set individually along the edges, where even spacing is the whole test.

The removable seat cushion

Practical rather than decorative: it can be turned to even out the wear, taken out to clean under, and replaced on its own years later without re-upholstering the chair.

Leather

Solid kiln-dried beech frame. Made to order in any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families; leather finish, stitching and cushion firmness specified at the time of order. Genuine leather only.

Where it belongs

A library, a study, a cigar lounge, a hotel suite, a director's office. It pairs with our buttoned sofas and it wants wall height behind it.
