Lavor is a rectangular wooden table carried on a row of slender brass-finished metal uprights, with a second level below it. The uprights are both the structure and the drawing: close together, they read as a rhythm along the length of the table rather than as four legs.
The metal uprights
A heavy wooden top on thin metal is a deliberate contrast, and it only works if the uprights are identical and perfectly vertical — spaced along a long table, any lean or variation in thickness is visible at a glance. They also let light and floor through, so a solid wood table does not read as a block. Wood and brass together is the combination this model is built on.
Two levels
A lower shelf runs beneath the main surface, carried by the same uprights. Books, magazines, a tray, a board game — it is what separates a table you put a cup on from a table a room can live around. It also makes the piece look lighter, because the eye reads two thin planes rather than one thick mass.
Materials and sizes
Wood and brass. Made to order, and genuinely so on this model: material, colour and size are all open, and we have built it at a range of lengths. Tell us the sofa or the room it is for and we will draw it to that, re-spacing the uprights so the rhythm stays even rather than stretched.
Where it belongs
A modern living room, an executive office, a hotel lounge, a reception area. The brass suits a room with warm materials — wood, wool, leather — more than one built on steel and glass.
