In context
Horizon is a low, long media unit with both open and closed compartments — the open ones for the equipment that has to breathe and be seen by a remote, the closed ones for everything that should not be on show.
Why the mix of open and closed matters
This is the only decision that really matters in a media unit. An amplifier or a set-top box behind a solid door gets hot and, unless the door is glass, stops answering its remote. Cables need a route out of the back rather than a bundle on the floor. Horizon is built with both kinds of compartment so the equipment goes in the open bays and the clutter — discs, controllers, spare leads — goes behind doors. Tell us what the equipment is and the internal layout is set to it.
Low on purpose
A screen is comfortable when its centre sits at seated eye level, which is roughly 100 to 110 cm from the floor. For a large television that only works if the unit under it is low; on a tall cabinet a 65-inch screen ends up with its centre well above eye height, and you feel it in your neck after an hour. The long horizontal line also stops a wide screen from looking stranded on the wall.
Made to the wall
Length, height and the division between open and closed storage are set during the order, so the unit is drawn around the screen and the wall rather than the other way round. The useful measurements to send are the clear wall width, the screen size, and the distance from the wall to where you sit.
Materials and sizes
Made to order. Material, finish and the internal layout are specified per project and confirmed with your quotation. Handcrafted in our Istanbul factory.
Where it belongs
A living room, an open-plan apartment, a family room, a hotel suite. It is the piece for a wall that has to hold a large screen without the wall becoming about the screen.
