HOLA ARMCHAIR

Hola is a cube — 80 cm wide, 80 cm deep, 80 cm high — with every edge rounded off, piping along the seams and leather straps down each side. It also turns: the base is a full 360-degree swivel. Shown in brown, cream and cognac.

The swivel

This is the reason to choose it. A swivel chair can face a conversation, then a window, then a television without being lifted and re-placed, which makes it the right piece for a room with more than one focal point. The mechanism is sized for a leather chair of this weight, so it turns smoothly rather than in steps.

Piping and straps

A piped edge is a cord sewn into the seam; on a fully rounded form it has to be eased round every curve without a single pucker. Here it does the drawing — without it the chair would read as a soft lump. The side straps are cut and stitched by hand and repeat the line on both sides.

Fabric or leather

Shown in fabric. Also made to order in any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families, or in a fabric you supply yourself. High-density foam over a kiln-dried beech frame; stitching and cushion firmness specified at the time of order.

Proportions

A true 80 cm cube, which is unusually compact for a lounge chair and part of why it works in a small room. Adjustable per project.

Where it belongs

A living room with a view and a fireplace to choose between, a hotel suite, a boutique lounge, a corner of an open-plan floor. Two of them together work better than one, because the swivel is what lets a pair face each other or face out.
