Flippo is an oval metal side table whose top is not flat. The surface rises and falls in a wave, so the table catches light along the crest and holds shadow in the trough — in a glossy black finish it reads as a sculpture that happens to be useful. A single slim pedestal on a circular base carries it.
A surface that moves
This is the whole point of the table and the reason it is made in metal. A wave like this cannot be pressed into wood or cast in stone at this thinness; it has to be formed in sheet, and the curve has to be fair all the way round, because a glossy surface shows every flat spot as a break in the reflection. Flippo is the one table in our range where the finish is doing as much work as the form.
What you can and cannot put on it
Said plainly: a glass will not stand level on the crest of the wave. There are flatter areas towards the rim that take a cup or a book, and the table is genuinely usable — but it is a sculptural piece first and a surface second, and anyone wanting a flat tray surface beside a chair should look at Sini or Monica instead. We would rather say so than have it chosen for the wrong job.
Pedestal and base
One slim column on a circular foot. There is nothing to knock a foot against from any angle, and no leg in the way of a chair, so the table can be pushed right in beside the seating — which is what a side table is for.
Materials and sizes
Metal, in a glossy black and in other colours. Made to order: colour, finish and dimensions are specified per project.
Where it belongs
A contemporary living room, a gallery, a hotel lobby, a lounge meant to be looked at. It needs light on it — under a lamp or near a window the wave works; in a dim corner it flattens out.
