ESTRO COFFEE TABLE

Estro is a rectangular table in veneered wood that runs on wheels, with a smaller round top raised on a stem at one end. The two surfaces sit at different heights, which is the whole idea: a low block for books and trays, and a higher disc at the end of it for a glass.

The wheels

Classic castors under a wooden block. They do what castors always do — one person can move a heavy table across a room without lifting it — and on a coffee table that is more useful than it sounds: it clears a floor for guests, slides out of the way for cleaning, and lets a room be rearranged without a second pair of hands. They also give the piece its slightly vintage, industrial character.

Two heights in one table

The main body is at coffee-table height and the attached round top sits above it. A drink on a low table is awkward to reach from a deep sofa; on the raised disc it is at hand height. That is the reason for the asymmetry, and it is also what makes Estro look like a piece of design rather than a box on wheels.

Veneered wood, and what that means

A veneer is a thin layer of real wood laid over a stable core. It is not a lesser material: a wide top in solid timber moves with the seasons and can cup or split, while a veneered panel stays flat — which is why almost every large table surface in good furniture is veneered rather than solid. The grain is real, it is matched across the panel, and it is chosen with the order.

Storage underneath

A lower shelf runs beneath the main surface. Books, magazines, a tray, a board game: it is the difference between a coffee table and a coffee table you can live around.

Where it belongs

A contemporary living room, a creative office, a lounge that gets rearranged. It wants a hard floor or a flat-weave rug — on a deep pile the castors do not roll.
