EQUALE CONSOLE

Equale is a glass-topped console on brushed brass-look metal legs. 150 cm long, 40 cm deep and only 65 cm high — the lowest console we make, which puts it in a different job from the rest of the range.

65 cm, and what it is for

Console height decides everything. At 65 cm Equale sits below the back of a sofa and below the height of a standing surface, which makes it a piece for under a window, beneath wall-mounted art, along a low wall, or at the end of a bed. Used in an entrance hall it will feel too low to work at — that is Sign at 103 cm, Grace at 92 or Victor at 87.

A glass top

Glass does one thing nothing else does: it disappears. Under a window it keeps the light and the view uninterrupted; in a narrow space it stops the console reading as a solid block. The honest trade-off is that glass shows every fingerprint and every mark, and it needs wiping where a wooden or stone top would not.

Brushed brass legs

Brushed rather than polished, so the metal is matt and warm instead of reflective. Against a transparent top the legs are effectively the whole visible object, which means the geometry has to be exact — on a piece with nothing to hide behind, a leg a degree out of plumb is obvious.

Where it belongs

Under a window, beneath a hung picture, in a bedroom, in a lobby, in an office. It is a light, open piece, which makes it the right choice where a solid console would close the space down.
