Emma is built around a loose back cushion. The frame is minimal — 85 cm wide, 80 cm deep, 75 cm high — and the padded cushion sitting in it is what you actually lean against, so the chair looks light and sits soft. Shown in brown.

A cushion, not a fixed back

A fixed upholstered back has to be firm enough to hold its own shape, which limits how soft it can be. A loose cushion does not: it can be plump and still hold the line, because the frame behind it is doing the structural work. The trade-off is that it needs straightening now and then, the way a sofa cushion does. In return the chair gives at the shoulders rather than pushing back.

Light frame, deep seat

The arms are slim and the base is drawn tight, so the chair reads as open from the side — but the seat is 80 cm deep, which is full lounge depth. High-density foam under it keeps that depth usable; a soft filling at this depth hollows in the middle within a year.

Leather or fabric

Hand-assembled on a kiln-dried beech frame, dried before upholstery. Any of seventy-six leather shades across twelve families, our fabric range, or a fabric you supply yourself. Genuine leather only. Stitching and cushion firmness specified at the time of order.

Proportions

85 × 80 × 75 cm — wider than it is deep, which gives an open seat rather than an enveloping one. Adjustable per project.

Where it belongs

A bedroom corner, a living room, a quiet lounge. It is one of the lighter-looking chairs in the range, which makes it useful in a room that already has a large sofa in it.
