Charlotte is a wooden set: a broad central table that shows its grain, with smaller round side tables whose tops are in contrasting finishes — black and stone. Round shapes on solid tapered wooden legs.
Wood as the subject
The central top is left plain so the grain is the decoration. That puts a demand on the material rather than on the detailing: the boards have to be selected and matched across the width, because on a wide plain surface a mismatched run of grain is the first thing anyone sees. The species and the stain are chosen with the order, and they change the table completely — a pale oak and a dark walnut are two different pieces.
Contrasting tops on the small tables
The side tables are deliberately not wooden. A black or stone top beside the timber keeps the group from reading as one block of wood, and it gives the set a hard surface for glasses while the main table stays warm. It is the reason this set works in a modern room as well as a traditional one.
Tapered legs
Solid timber, narrowing towards the floor, so they meet it at a point rather than a block. That lightens a set built from heavy materials, and it keeps the legs visually out of the way of anyone's feet. A tapered leg is cut and fitted precisely because the angle is visible from every side.
Materials and sizes
Made to order. Wood species, stain, the top material on each small table and the diameters and heights are specified per project. Tell us the arm height of the sofa and the chairs the small tables will stand beside.
Where it belongs
A living room with wood or wool in it already, an apartment, a hotel lounge. It pairs naturally with our Charlotte sofa, which is drawn in the same mid-century proportion.
