Akropolis is 240 cm long, 68 cm high and only 47 cm deep: a lacquered wood body divided by vertical dividers clad in leather. The leather is the only soft material on an otherwise hard, lacquered piece, and it is what separates this console from a cabinet.

Leather dividers

Each vertical divider is wrapped in hide and set into the lacquered body. It is a difficult combination — a high-gloss lacquer shows every edge, so the leather has to meet the lacquer in a perfectly straight line along the full height of each divider, with no shadow gap and no overlap. The hide can be matched to a sofa in the same room, from the same batch.

68 cm: the height behind a sofa

This is the dimension that decides where a console goes. At 68 cm Akropolis sits just below the back of most of our sofas, which is exactly where a console works best: standing behind the seating in an open-plan room, carrying lamps and objects, dividing the living area from whatever is behind it without blocking the view across.

240 cm, 47 cm deep

Long enough to run behind a three-seater and shallow enough not to steal the walking space behind it. Both numbers matter together — a long console that is also deep turns a walkway into a bottleneck.

Materials and sizes

Dimensions listed above; made to order. Lacquer colour, wood and the leather shade — any of seventy-six across twelve families — are specified per project. Genuine leather only; no faux leather is used in any Sitdesign product. Handcrafted in our Istanbul workshop.

Where it belongs

Behind a sofa in an open-plan room, along a dining room wall, in a hotel lobby or a corporate reception. It is a long, low horizontal line, which suits a room that needs one.
