SAMURAI DINING TABLE — In context 1

Samurai stands on two sculpted pedestals instead of four legs. Each one is built from two solid blocks: a straight upper block that carries the top, and a lower block cut on a slant, set against it with a narrow angled gap between them. From the side the two bases read like stacked stones that have shifted slightly — heavy, deliberate and still. The top is a long rectangle with a softened, stepped edge, in dark-stained wood with the grain left visible.

The split base

This is the piece. The angled cut runs through both pedestals, so each base looks as if it has been sliced and set back down a few degrees off. The narrow shadow line between the blocks is what makes the table: it lightens a very solid form and gives it a direction. Both cuts have to line up with each other and with the top, or the table looks crooked rather than composed.

The top

The edge steps in underneath, so the visible profile is thinner than the board itself. With the pedestals set in from the ends, the top overhangs generously on every side, leaving clear room for chairs and knees along the full length.

Size

W 240 × D 110 × H 74 cm, which seats six to eight. Made to order in wood; other sizes and finishes can be discussed per project, and we confirm the proportion before quoting. Allow 60 to 65 cm of table edge per person and about 90 cm of clear floor behind each chair.

Where it belongs

A dining room with space around the table, an open-plan apartment, a villa or a design-led restaurant. The bases are the reason to choose it, so it works best standing clear in a room where they can be seen.
