APRIL SOFA

April is a wide, low sofa built from simple blocks: two deep seat cushions, two back cushions and two broad arms, all sitting on a plinth that steps out slightly beyond them. The arms are the thickest part of it — square in plan, rounded at the front edge and finished with a seam that runs down the face, so from the front they read as two solid pillars framing the seat.

The plinth

The whole body rests on an upholstered base that projects a few centimetres all the way round and lifts on small dark feet. It gives April a clear bottom line, so the sofa looks placed rather than dropped onto the floor, and it lets the upper body stay plain without looking heavy.

The arms

This is the piece. A broad arm is easy to make look clumsy; here the front is rounded, the seam is set exactly on the curve and the top is kept flat and wide, so the arm reads as one clean volume. It also makes a wide, comfortable place to lean or rest a cup.

How it is built

The frame is kiln-dried beech, the cushions are high-density foam over a sprung seat. The back is divided into tailored vertical panels, so the reverse is finished as carefully as the front and April can stand free in a room.

Materials and sizes

Shown in smooth leather in two tones. April can be upholstered in any leather in our collection or in fabric, including a fabric you supply yourself. Three widths: three-seater W 250 × D 94 × H 80 cm, two-seater W 210 × D 94 × H 80 cm and armchair W 107 × D 94 × H 80 cm; a matching footstool (W 70 × D 50 × H 38 cm) is also available. Made to order, so sizes can be adapted to your room.

Where it belongs

A living room that wants a calm, solid centre, a villa, a hotel suite or a lounge. In leather it is crisp and tailored; in a soft fabric the same lines become more relaxed.
