The arms are the thickest part of it — square in plan, rounded at the front edge and finished with a seam that runs down the face, so from the front they read as two solid pillars framing the seat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eThe plinth\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe whole body rests on an upholstered base that projects a few centimetres all the way round and lifts on small dark feet. It gives April a clear bottom line, so the sofa looks placed rather than dropped onto the floor, and it lets the upper body stay plain without looking heavy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eThe arms\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is the piece. A broad arm is easy to make look clumsy; here the front is rounded, the seam is set exactly on the curve and the top is kept flat and wide, so the arm reads as one clean volume. It also makes a wide, comfortable place to lean or rest a cup.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHow it is built\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe frame is kiln-dried beech, the cushions are high-density foam over a sprung seat.
